Improvement 19-01 - NW 4th Street (Riverside Drive) Improvements

Reconstruction of NW 4th Street from Jackson Street to Washington Street with re-configured lanes, inclusion of a median from Jackson Street to Washington Street, and a roundabout at Jackson Street.  

Background

In 2017, the City of Brainerd, along with Crow Wing County, consulted with Bolton and Menk to conduct a traffic study on this corridor to identify needed safety and traffic improvements in this area.  From the study, the City applied for Local Road Improvement Program funds and was awarded $800,000 for this outlined improvements.  The City has contracted with Bolton and Menk for design and construction engineering services for this project, to be constructed in 2020.

Improvement 19-02 - Cuyuna Lakes State Trail Brainerd Segment

Connection and designation of the Cuyuna Lakes State Trail in Brainerd along Trunk Highway 210 from 5th Avenue NE to N 8th Street and along Norwood Street from S 8th Street to the Buffalo Hills Trail.

Background

The City of Brainerd has been appropriated $1,100,000 for the connection of the Cuyuna Lakes State Trail in Brainerd through the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.  This money was appropriated in 2014 for construction of the trail in Deerwood.  The left over funds were re-appropriated to the City for the trail connection in Brainerd.  It is anticipated after this connection is constructed, the City of Brainerd will enter into a Joint Powers Agreement with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources for designation of this segment and other existing trails in Brainerd as the Cuyuna Lakes State Trail.  The City has contracted with Short Elliot Hendrickson, Inc. for design and construction engineering services on this proposed trail segment.
