Community Development Department

The Community Development Department is responsible for ensuring healthy and consistent growth throughout the community. It also develops long range goals for the development of the City. This department enforces the local zoning ordinance and reviews zoning variances and conditional use permits for consideration by the Planning Commission.

Community Member of the Month

The City is accepting nominations for the Community Member of the Month.  This program is geared towards recognizing community members who make their neighborhood a place where people want to live.  Small acts of kindness can have a large impact on the community, and this member of the Brainerd community exemplifies what is means to be a good neighbor.

To nominate someone, fill out the form through the link below which includes basic information about you (the nominator) as well as the nominee, and provide reasoning for why this person deserves the honor of being the Brainerd Community Member of the Month.  You may choose for your information to remain anonymous.  The nominations are accepted on a rolling basis, and a nominee will be picked on the third Monday of every month, starting June 17.  The nominee will be recognized and given their award on the 1st Monday of every month, beginning July 1.  The nominee for Community Member of the Month will receive an award, as well as a photo with the Mayor/City Council.  If the nominee is unable to attend the City Council meeting, it is required that a family member or friend attends to receive the award for them.  If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Community Development Department.

Community Survey Panel

The City of Brainerd is implementing a community based survey program to obtain feedback about important issues affecting the City.  The information can be used as part of a City Comprehensive Plan update.
