Investigative Division

The Brainerd Police Department's Investigative Division consists of a lieutenant, three full-time general investigators, a school resource officer, and an investigator assigned to the Lakes Area Drug Investigative Division (LADID).

The caseload of an investigator ranges from victim crimes (such as murder, assault, and criminal sexual conduct cases) to property crimes (such as burglary, theft, identity theft, and damage to property cases) that have taken place within the City of Brainerd. Investigators also assist other Law Enforcement agencies, to include Social Services and state and federal agencies.

School Resource Officers


The school resource officer (SRO) is primarily assigned to the Brainerd Senior High School and South Campus. The SRO investigates the majority of crimes that occur on the ISD 181 properties, including crimes such as liquor and tobacco violations, assaults, disorderly conduct, and thefts. The SRO is also very active with school safety education of staff and students.

Lakes Area Drug Investigative Division (LADID)


The investigator assigned to the Lakes Area Drug Investigative Division (LADID) works with three investigators from Crow Wing County conducting investigations of sale, possession, and trafficking of controlled substances - illegal narcotics. The LADID is responsible for the entire county and often times are assisted by the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and the Drug Enforcement Agency.
