It is important to the Brainerd Police Department that students in the Brainerd school district who are selected to be school safety patrol members are well trained and safe as they perform the very important duties of offering direction and providing safety to their fellow classmates.
The Brainerd Police Department acts as a liaison between the school district and the City of Brainerd. The City of Brainerd collects funds to send local students who will be entering the 4th grade to the Legionville School Safety Patrol Training Center. Brainerd City Hall acts as a "bank" to collect and hold the funds needed to send students from the Brainerd school district to the Legionville School Safety Patrol Training Center. Donations are collected from local businesses and citizens. There are approximately 50 school district students each year that are issued "a ticket" to attend the 1-week training session prior to the start of the school year.
Legionville School Safety Patrol Training Center
is located on 610 acres of land with 1,500 feet of shoreline beach on
North Long Lake in Brainerd, Minnesota. The primary function of the
1-week camp is to train Minnesota boys and girls in the procedures of
school safety patrol work at intersections and in bus patrol work.
Training is provided primarily by the Minnesota State Patrol.
The Brainerd Police Department extends a big thank you to all of the
students who volunteer their time to keep our children safe!
