Pond Hockey
The 2018 Pond Hockey Jamboree will be played from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 24, at the Essentia Health Sports Center. Watch for the schedule!
The pond hockey league is for youth of ages 7 - 10 (Penguins) and 11 - 15 (Polar Bears). Whatever the player's age is on January 1, 2018 determines the age classification for this program.
The meeting will be from 11 to noon on Saturday, December 16, at the Mill Avenue Park warming house. Parents who register online on or after the deadline should bring proof of registration. Helmets, elbow pads, and shin pads are provided. Goaltender equipment is also provided. Participants must provide their own sticks, skates, mouth guards, and gloves.
The first practice for the Penguins will be at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, January 2, 2018, at Mill Avenue Park skating rinks. The first practice for the Polar Bears will be at 6 p.m. on Thursday, January 4, 2018, at Mill Avenue Park skating rinks. Games for both age groups will begin January 13, 2018.
Coaches determine the practice schedule, usually at 6 p.m., once or twice per week. Games are usually played on Saturday mornings at Mill Avenue Park or Nisswa, depending on the schedule. Starting in February, some games will be played in the evenings during normally scheduled practice times.
Polar Bears (ages 11 - 15) play at 10 a.m., and Penguins (ages 7 - 10) play at 11 a.m. on Saturdays.
